Q: How many Pictures Plus locations are there?
A: There are currently 8 art and framing locations and 3 Diamond Head Galleries located throughout Hawaii. We also have one retail location called Island Waves located in the heart of Waikiki.
[back to top] Q: Do you ship?
A: Yes, we ship anywhere in the world. We custom make wooden crates to safely pack your artwork. It is an insured package to anywhere in the world. Depending on the shipping destination - shipping time can be anywhere from 3-7 business days.
[back to top] Q: How much does it cost to ship?
A: Shipping cost is determined by recipient destination and united inches (or the overall size of the finished framed piece).
- You obtain the UI of a piece by measuring the outside frame and adding the width plus the height together. (I.E., W= 30”, H= 40”, Total UI = 70”)
- If your measurement lands in between inches, round UP to the nearest inch. (I.E., W= 29.625”, round to W=30”)
- For Example, the cost to ship a framed piece to a Domestic (US MAINLAND) destination would be as follows:
A 30”x40” Framed piece broken down by cost:
· $1.10 per UI (United Inch) = 70 x $1.10 = $77.00
· $5.00 Handling Fee = $77.00 + $5.00 = $82.00
· All pieces are shipped insured ($1.00 per $100.00 in value for insurance). Assuming the retail value of the piece is $400, $82.00 + $4.00 = $86.00 TOTAL.
· Inter-Island and International shipping rates vary from $0.60 to $1.70 per UI for the first piece.
[back to top] Q: What does the satisfaction guarantee mean?
A: You have our unconditional guarantee that you will be completely satisfied. We also offer a money back guarantee, except for custom orders. At Pictures Plus, we aren't finished with your job until you are completely satisfied with the art that is hanging on your wall. Your unhesitating satisfaction is our goal and our future.
[back to top] Q: What is your return policy?

[back to top] Q: What is "Frame at Home"?
A: We make your Frame to your specifications. You receive an additional 20% off. All you have to do is insert your picture AT HOME.
[back to top] Q: Can I choose my own Koa wood?
A: You may request a light to medium or a medium to dark color and we will do our best to honor that request with what we currently have in stock. There are no guarantees on the color or grain of Koa as each stick is unique. The variation in the color and grain is what makes Koa wood so unique and beautiful.
[back to top] Q: Why do you get your Koa Veneer from Italy?
A: The Koa wood comes, of course, from Hawaii, then is sent to Ohio to be cut into thin strips in preparation for the veneer process that takes place in Italy. We do this because the Italians are well recognized as the finest veneer craftsmen in the world. Pictures Plus is dedicated to always providing the highest quality and most economical product to our clients.
[back to top] Q: What is the difference between Koa Veneer and solid Koa and how can I spot it.
A: Solid Koa is as it sounds – the entire moulding is made of Koa wood. In earlier times, when Koa was more widely available, the only option was to make things (frames, furniture, etc.) with solid Koa. Today, technology and the lack of available Koa trees has forced framers and other woodworkers to make traditional items using veneer. Koa veneer is real Koa, made from the highest-grade Koa trees.
The wood is cut into “chunks” and the veneer process involves “slicing” these Koa chunks into thin sheets and applying these sheets to a less expensive, but quality, wood species. Pictures Plus sends our Hawaiian Koa all the way across the Atlantic to Italy. Italy is famous the world over for their veneer processing and varnishing expertise. With their help, the quality of our veneer is unparalleled with any veneer or solid frame in Hawaii today. The presentation of our veneer frames is so good, the only way to differentiate between our veneer and solid Koa is the finish (our veneer finish is superior to any hand finish found on any solid frame) and viewing the back of the frame (the non-Koa substrate will be visible). We hope that you will enjoy the beauty of our Hawaiian Koa frames.
They are made to look the way Koa was meant to be crafted – rich in color, brilliant in finish, a deep luster with traditional grain patterns that make Koa famous.
[back to top] Q: How do I get a catalogue?
A: Please email your catalog requests to info@picturesplus.net. We will add you to our mailing list.
[back to top] Q: How long has Pictures Plus been in business?
A: We have been in business since 1986 and currently have 10 Pictures Plus locations and 3 fine art galleries under the name Diamond Head Gallery. We also have a 40,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility to support our Website and retail locations.
[back to top] Q: What is the difference between a limited edition and an artist proof?
A: A limited edition is a fixed number of identical prints of an image, signed and numbered by the artist. It shows both the print's number and the limited edition size. This is referred to as a "limited edition print". Artist Proofs are intended for the artist's personal use. The general rule is that the number of artist proofs (APs) released within an edition is usually about one-tenth of the number of the regular edition (LE). The artist proof, due to the smaller edition size, is deemed of greater value due to its scarcity, as there is a limited number available on the market.

Q: How much does custom framing cost?
A: Custom framing costs vary depending on the size of your artwork, what materials you are using to frame and the type of artwork you have. A standard custom framing order size is about 24x30 and costs may vary as much as $50.00 to $200.00 depending on the design chosen.
[back to top] Q: What is the difference between Acid Free and Regular mats?
A: Acid Free mats are 100% acid free in the core and back of the mat. Anything touching your artwork will be acid free. That is important because acids will eventually “eat” into your artwork, causing brown spots. Regular mats are 90% acid free in the core and back of the mat. The color of the regular mats will also fade a lot faster than the color of an acid free mat. Pictures Plus recommends using acid free materials for all your framing.
[back to top] Q: What kind of glass should I use?
A: Type of glass depends heavily on what type of artwork you have and where it will be hung in your home or office. We recommend high end and original artwork to be framed with Plexi Glass, as this will cause minimal damage to artwork if the picture should ever fall. Artwork that will be exposed to a lot of sunlight should be framed with Ultra Violet (UV) Glass which helps reduce fading of the image. Artwork that gets a lot of overhead lighting exposure should be framed with Non-Glare Glass. All other artwork that does not fall in one of the above categories should be framed in Regular glass as this is the most economical type of glass.
[back to top] Q: How do I care for Plexi Glass?
A: Use only non-Ammonia based cleaners. Most are labeled as Plexi or Acrylic cleaners. You should spray the cleaner on liberally and use a 100% cotton cloth to wipe the glass. Determine which way you will wipe (vertical or horizontal, never in swirls) and always wipe that way. Because of the sensitive nature of Plexi Glass, you will invariably have slight scratches from regular cleaning. Always wiping one way will make these slight scratches less noticeable than wiping in swirls.
[back to top] Q: How do I hang my picture?
A: Pictures Plus provides wall hooks with every piece of artwork we sell. The wall hooks are made for dry wall or wood walls. For dry wall, it is recommended that you find the stud to hang your hook from, especially for heavier pictures. For concrete walls, you need to purchase a concrete wall hook from your neighborhood hardware store.
[back to top] Q: What is the difference between Stack Framing and Matting?
A: Stacked Framing is when we use multiple frames and “stack” them one on top of another for a deeper, richer look. Matting is a flatter look using colored borders to enhance the image. Both have their own unique look and choosing between the two is based on client preference and the type of artwork you have.
[back to top] Q: Why shouldn't the artwork touch the glass?
A: Artwork should not touch glass because with time moisture will ruin the artwork due to mildew. Another reason that glass should not be placed directly on artwork is because some art may stick to the glass, i.e.: photographs, puzzles that have been glued together, etc.
[back to top] Q: How long does it take to do a custom frame?
A: After the initial order has taken place and received at the factory, it takes 7 calendar days for stores on Oahu and it will take 2-3 weeks for neighbor islands. If the item is being shipped, additional time is required, an additional 14 days depending on recipient destination.
[back to top] Q: Do you offer different types of glass?
A: Yes we do. We offer non-glare glass, Ultra Violet (UV) glass, plexi glass, UV plexi, UV non-glare glass, non-glare plexi.
[back to top] Q: What is Dry Mounting?
A: Dry Mounting is a permanent process of adhering your artwork to a board using a vacuum heat press. It is recommended for artwork such as fine art posters, photographs and other types of artwork that are not heat sensitive or do not have any 3 dimensional objects attached. We recommend dry mounting for high humidity locations where it is ok to be permanently mounted.
